Below the Surface

I photographed weddings full time for fifteen years; you would think nothing would shake me. I have to tell you, underwater photography intimidates the heck out of me.

I am intrigued and determined to get it right.

Above surface swim is not new to me. If you know me, you know I love photographing many different types of sporting events.

Since I am not fond of being in water, I purchased a GoPro to see if underwater photography would even be something I would like to explore. Turns out, I was concentrating so much on taking photographs that being in the water didn’t bother me. I was so inspired by the potential that I made the investment into gear that would help me achieve professional results.

It was un-nerving to say the least putting my expensive camera into this piece of plastic with ports and o-rings and attachments that include warnings of disaster. I am so lucky to have nieces and a nephew that are on a swim team and were nice enough to volunteer their time for me to practice.

I learn something new each time I am under the surface. I hope my results get better and better and that my confidence grows into how I feel aiming the Nikon down the first baseline. In the meantime, here are some images of the maiden submersion of my Ikelite system.

This is me, showing you my vulnerability.

Hopefully we can look back very soon at how much I have improved.
